TCW:November 2013 Meeting Recap

Hello Woodturners

Since many of  you were unable to attend the meeting on Saturday,  I just want to update you on the main details of the meeting.  There were only eight in attendance.

There was discussion regarding whether to remain a chapter of AAW or not.  It was finally decided to remain a chapter for the year, 2014.  This gives us time to assess how AAW deals with some of it’s internal problems and how it deals with small chapters such as ours who have lost the insurance benefit once offered by AAW and now have to raise over $400.00 each year in insurance premiums in order to be covered for liability.  We will visit this issue again in November 2014.

November is the time for nomination of officers for the club.   Dennis Van Loo  was nominated for President.  Alan Leach was nominated for vice president.  Rodney Norberg was nominated for treasurer and Luke Rogers was nominated for secretary.  I urge every one to try to attend the December Meeting in order to vote for the election of officers.

There was good participation in the “Show and Tell” portion of our meeting.    I and the other officers are always encouraged by  all the participation in this as well as every one sharing their thoughts and ideas during our discussion times.  Keep up the good work!

Dennis provided us with a very interesting and informative account of his recent all day class at OSU with a professor there who is an expert on how to cause spaulting in wood in a controlled environment in as little as 12 weeks.  With out going into too much detail, this is accomplished by introducing home grown fungal spores into the wood.  There will be more information available about this some time around March or April.  So stay tuned.

We need to hear from you about any subjects that you want to have discussed at our meetings for the up-coming year and also any demonstrations that you want to see conducted. If you would, please E-mail me with your ideas as the executive committee will be meeting soon to plan a schedule for 2014.

Rodney Norberg is now receiving  the $20:00 membership dues for 2014.

Our “Challenge Project” for December is any turned bowl or vessel.   I hope to see lots of new turnings.  Also, if you have other creations that you have made,  please bring them to show us as well.  We always like to see other things that have been created by your talent.

See you December 14th
Alan Leach
